I've put together a post that has, what I think, is all the possible (english) information on SmartContainers' ICO out there

Okay, so this is going to be really long in terms of posts here. I actually have to cut out some info to make it under 40000 characters for reddit...
Typically in the market there are Currency and Utility coins. Profit-Share Tokens are relatively new, and while this ICO has 2 tokens, the profit share token is definitely the main attraction, as it's tied to a very, very promising company. This company is SmartContainers Group, and their tokens are SMARC (profit-share token) and LOGI (more on LOGI later).
“Smart Containers Group, formerly REP AG (Swiss registry of commerce, UID: CHE- 141.664.882), is a Swiss based, high tech company that provides the safest temperature controlled containers to transport sensitive pharma goods and food around the world. Our purpose is to secure sensitive goods and to make sure no compromised product is ever delivered to anyone.” - whitepaper

Product

SmartContainers Group is a holding company for SkyCell.
SkyCell is the company Smart Containers Group uses to rent/sell their containers to clients around the world.
Our containers transport some of the most expensive and temperature-sensitive goods in the pharmaceutical industry. These goods need a particularly careful and accurate protection. Through our highly secure and efficient container design, we assure the best possible protection against temperature excursions. In combination with a cutting-edge technology, it enables us to provide containers with easy handling, maximum loading capacity and highest performance on the market.
More than 50 man-years of research and development poured into the creation of an unprecedented, highly efficient insulation. This cutting-edge technology reflects a maximum of radiation while minimizing heat conducting. It is the most patent protected insulation technology on the market.
The ingenious SkyCell R&D team invented a completely new, cooling technology, that stores five times more energy than traditional methods to keep the container at a steady temperature. Consequently, SkyCell containers are automatically recharged in a cooling chamber without any manual interference. Nothing can be mixed up since all parts are integrated and fixed.
The ingenious SkyCell R&D team invented a completely new, cooling technology, that stores five times more energy than traditional methods to keep the container at a steady temperature.

“oh, our product needs better cooling? Okay, let’s just invent a better cooling technology, no biggie”. Who heads that team, Rick Sanchez?
I asked about this tech during their AMA, here's what they said:
Cooling technology: Yes, our containers are state of the art. Nico has developed a cooling material that freezes at 5.5°C. So if you put it in a cooling chamber that has a lower temperature, it automatically freezes and if the temperature is higher it melts. Basically, the system works like a huge ice cube that is empty in the middle. The centre of the ice cube has a steady temperature of 0° until at least 1 side of the ice cube has melted. It's the same principle for SkyCell containers, but at 5.5°C

The patented-in house developed cooling technology stores five times more energy than traditional methods to keep the container at a consistent temperature. After use, they are ‘recharged’ in a cooling chamber without any need for manual intervention, increasing productivity of the business and reducing cost.
I’ve forgotten to mention something so far about their product [the containers]. They’re literally (not figuratively, literally) the most advanced container ON EARTH.

From their ICO FAQ: Where do you position yourself compared to Envirotainer? Envirotainer is the number one container company with the largest container fleet today. We are currently fourth globally, but we reached this position in less than 5 years operating in this space. SkyCell containers have been tested and shown to be technologically superior to Envirotainer containers (5x more runtime, up to 35% lighter) which translates into safer pharma distribution and cost savings as well as a reduced CO2 footprint.

We are currently fourth globally, but we reached this position in less than 5 years operating in this space.

Another thing that’s pretty impressive, 4th largest company in their entire field… after just 5 years… but back to the main point of that statement: “SkyCell containers have been tested and shown to be technologically superior to Envirotainer containers (5x more runtime, up to 35% lighter) which translates into safer pharma distribution and cost savings as well as a reduced CO2 footprint.”.

Watching a video from a blockchain conference in Switzerland, I got a fair bit of info from the CEO, Richard. I’ll be quoting him in that video a few times in this post, and here’s the first: “In my industry, we talk about how many shipments go wrong - and the average is 8.5%. So for 8.5% of pharma shipments for example, the [proper] temperature is not maintained. In our case [with Smart Containers], it’s less than 0.1%. That’s 75 times better. Richard also speaks in this video about how they will be able to eliminate the amount of shipments happening every year, due to the decentralized nature of this whole system, there will be less need to send packages to places far from their end destination, to make the delivery easier on the shipping side. We’ve all had packages come from across the ocean, only for it to fly 1500 Km past us to be shipped back our way next week…

LogiChain

”There are 200 documents are required, or exchanged, to make one shipment happen… we estimate we can bring this down to 8” Richard Ettl, CEO
Logistics is an old industry. it started out on paper, moved through the fax, early ages of the information era, early email, current email, and is now ready to move onto the blockchain.
LOGI CHAIN GOALS

“By using blockchain technology, we can decentralize logistics and create autonomous containers – container 4.0. This container will know who’s renting it, when the contract ends and when to invoice the customer. That’s why we’ve created the LOGI CHAIN platform. It allows us to create a seamless, fully integrated, digital logistics process that everyone can use for free.” - Richard Ettl, CEO
“Well-established processes often generate inefficiencies that we simply accept. And of course everyone knows change is painful. But at Smart Containers, we see things differently. Change is the only way to improve. We think that every process should not only be optimized but redefined and redesigned. Logistics today is highly centralized. It’s incredibly inefficient. So many wasted kilometers to huge warehouses.” Nico Ros, CTO

There will be more than one blockchain at play with this system as well. The info that people deserve to know will be available on a public blockchain like Ethereum, the weight, material safety data sheets, the storage conditions (which as said up above, 8.5% of pharma shipments have issues with, and Smart Containers brings that down to below 0.1%), as well as at the same time, the info that shouldn’t be public to everyone (Bills, invoices, etc) would be stored on a blockchain like Fabric or HyperLedger. LOGI will be the fuel for the LOGI Chain.
CMO Carla elaborating on LogiChain:
The LOGI project finds good echoes with logistics players but even more with blockchain infrastructures like NEM, EOS and NEO.
Emirates for once was enthusiastic about the project and definitely wants to join the foundation. As you know, the government of Dubai is focussing on applying blockchain asap to multiple industries.
We are also in exchange with ShipChain, who are running a similar project in the US. Our goal is to collaborate with a maximum of projects around the world.
The LOGI Chain Foundation will be set up in July, right at the end of the ICO. Dr. Fabian Schär, our valued Advisor, will be in charge of defining how the LOGI Chain Foundation will develop in the next 2-3 years. We think that we will be able to put out a PoC based on SkyCell until the end of the year.
We have not yet decided on which blockchain platform to build the LOGI CHAIN. We are highly delighted with NEM since they are already operative and offer a private and public blockchain on the same protocol.

One Chain to Connect them all - LOGI CHAIN
One platform to get all players up to speed, to handle all documents and permissions in one place. No more floods of emails. No more polluting the environment with senseless printing of documents. No more compatibility problems and clashes of individualized systems.
To show you how vast the amount of documents (and by this emails circulated) find a list of common documents needed for one air freight shipment below:
Documents of origin, Material safety sheet, Airway bill, Bill of lading, Transport order, Customs declaration documents & bills, Invoices, Product data sheet, Storage conditions, Transport conditions, Multiple service provider billings, Licenses, etc.
This adds up to the gigantic number of about 200 manually processed emails per shipment.
A combination of public and permission based chains will allow for all players in the ecosystem to store documents needed in the logistics processes. We are looking at multiple platforms to build the LOGI CHAIN on top including NEM, Fabric, Corda, EOS and NEO.

Team

I’ll be using bits and pieces taken from their white paper and LinkedIn pages.
The Smart Containers team includes over 80 people, and is growing every year.
Richard Ettl - Co-Founder, CEO - LinkedIn
Richard wanted to know how things worked since he was a child. He has a passion for engineering and management. Growing up in Vienna, Austria and studying in Stanford USA and the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, he started his career at Bobst Group, a leading producer of packaging machines worldwide. In 2009, he decided to launch his own business together with his university friend Nico. After wide reaching scientific research and various proof of concepts, they founded today’s Smart Containers Group as well as SkyCell in 2012. Since then he has lead the companies to commercial success, seamlessly finding the right partners and investors at crucial points, as well as convincing more and more clients of the unrivaled benefits of the SkyCell offer

Nico Ros - Co-Founder, CTO - LinkedIn
Nico Ros, Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder Nico is the mastermind behind Smart Containers Group and its technology. Growing up in Basel, Switzerland, he discovered his passion for mathematics very early on and therefore came to study mathematics, physics and engineering. Being a natural talent, he had already won prestigious architectural prizes during his studies and quickly became managing partner at ZPF an engineering company in Basel. He has constructed the most expensive buildings in Switzerland in collaboration with the famous architects Herzog & DeMeuron. Nico’s key strength lies not only in his state of the art engineering know how but also in his efficient management of teams, leading highly complex, multimillion projects to success. However, engineering alone did not suffice Nico. Having a passion for business and management, he decided to complete additional studies at the University of Fribourg, meeting Richard along the way. Everyone who meets Nico rapidly becomes aware of his sharp mind and his passion to invent new technologies. It is therefore not surprising, that both him and Richard ended up together where they are today.

Andreas Ernst - CFO - LinkedIn
Andreas is the true logistic finance expert in the company. He spent all his career in various finance roles of logistic service providers: from Swissair (today Swiss International Airlines), to Swissport (biggest ground service provider for airlines) where he filled the role as regional CFO for the Middle East and Africa. His last role before joining Smart Containers Group was CFO of Unitpool (now called Unilode), which is the largest independent air-freight container pooling company in the world.

Thomas Taroni - Head of IT - LinkedIn
Thomas is an IT-architecture mastermind. His first claim to fame is the creation of the largest media database, shared by all media houses in Switzerland: more than two million articles are uploaded every year, then queried and shared seamlessly and efficiently among multiple news companies. He founded his own IT company to design IT architectures focusing on process automation (eliminating paper and endless emails), and as a result won other clients (large banks, pharma companies and even publicly tendered government contracts). SkyCell became his client, when they needed a bespoke asset management system to track and trace their containers around the world. He joined SkyCell four years ago and since his tenure, has become the head of IT for all companies of Smart Containers Group.

Carla Bünger - CMO & Business Development Manager - LinkedIn
Carla is a marketing and sales expert. Building strong brands on solid foundations and convincing clients to buy its underlying products gives her huge satisfaction. She collected her experience through managing various international consumer brands, for companies such as Nestlé, Lindt and Coty. However, she discovered her passion for Blockchain technology roughly 18 months ago and has since been actively participating in the com - munity of Crypto Valley in Switzerland. The sheer endless application possibilities make her strive for more and she is drawing energy and enthusiasm from developing new business schemes around the subject. Her “can do” attitude helped to put together the high level advisory team around our ICO.

Advisors

Strategic advisor: Oliver Bussmann, is CEO and Founder of Bussmann Advisory, former CIO of UBS and SAP as well as the President of the Crypto Valley Association. “our main advisor” - Richard
Strategic advisor: Marc Bettinger, Altcoin and Blockchain specialist and investor, Co-Host Altcoin Meetup Switzerland (Bitcoin Association Switzerland)
Strategic Advisor: Fabian Schär is Managing Director of the Center for Innovative Finance at the University of Basel. His research focus is on the potential and applications of blockchain. In addition, he works as a lecturer in blockchain technology at the University of Basel, the University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich (HWZ) and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW).

Technology Partner: Lykke Corp. our highly trustworthy expert in smart contract programming and ICO execution. (Lykke also audited their ICO smartcontract)
Legal Advisor: Gabriela Hauser-Spuehler was part of the team of MME, the well-known law firm in the crypto space.
Communication Advisor: David Wachsman and Emma Walker from Wachsman PR, the crypto community’s most experienced PR agency.
Richard also states they hired a lawyer that worked on the Ethereum ICO, but I don’t know if it’s Gabriela up there or another person.

Tokens

Min. investment = $500 USD for ICO, $5000 for presale (largest portion of supply), $250k for private sale.
There are two tokens as mentioned before: SMARC and LOGI. I’m more into SMARC because it’s safe (safe once the payouts start of course, as soon as a coin has a clear value like this, BTC moving up or down doesn’t matter to you), as well as obviously very attractive if you think of the long term profits.

Every year, the company’s annual shareholder meeting takes place, during which the shareholders will agree (or negotiate) on a proposal by the Smart Containers’ board about how much of the company profits is to be paid to the shareholders that year. 20% of that amount is taken, converted to ETH, and fairly distributed to the token holders.
Since the cofounders and all token holders will have aligned interests and incentives, we are all in a positive-sum-game. We do not want to use the ICO as a speculative springboard, but as way of funding innovation and change the world. Both Richard and Nico are committed for the long-term and not interested in a quick exit. Our aim is to use the collected funds to continue pushing the following business areas:
• Continue scaling of SkyCell in both B2B and B2C
• Establish FoodGuardians - the main goal if the ICO is to build and scale FoodGuardians
• Establish the of LOGI CHAIN Foundation
• Regularly evaluate organic scaling vs. M&A
• Evaluate IPO at relevant time
We are raising funds through an ICO to grow our container businesses in pharma and food. We push SkyCell from no. 4 to the no. 1 provider in the next 2-3 years.

The CEO in this video explains pretty easily why one would want to put money into this ICO over others:
“Why invest? [referring to SMARC] Simple question. It’s an up and coming company with revenue, multiple millions a year, most ICO’s have white papers…[we have much more than that].”
That's pretty clear. You can invest in random Xcoin ICO where they have some half-baked token that might see some level of adoption if it isn't just a cash grab, or you could invest in an actual multimillion-dollar company and be a part of it as it scales into what could potentially be a multibillion dollar entity.

The following is taken from the ICO, Legal, and Company FAQ

How will the profit share payouts work? 20% of dividends will be paid in ETH to all holders of SMARC tokens that are in circulation at the time of the payout. A given business year ends on 31st December each year with a general assembly held annually around mid-February. Therefore, dividend payout is expected around mid-March each year. In the event of a total sale of Smart Containers or the exit of one of its lines of business, the holders of SMARC tokens will receive a 20% participation of proceeds

Is there a future profit statement? No listed company can make an estimation or a commitment to a future return. To do so would neither be professional nor ethical. For Smart Containers, as with any company, profits may often depend upon a number of external factors, such as the general trust in blockchain technology. The question to be assessed is how fast a new disruptive technology can replace an old system. We believe that Smart Containers Group is well-positioned to facilitate this disruption, with a strong plan going forward and experienced team working to successfully implement blockchain technology in the supply chain. 5 years of industry experience, the 4th largest container fleet and a motivated team; that’s more than any idea whitepaper ICO.

What specific rights come with my investment? The SMARC token is a profit share token. When the company generates profits and the company’s general assembly approves a dividend payout, 20% of the defined funds attributed to dividends will be distributed proportionally to holders of SMARC tokens in circulation. In contrast, the LOGI token is a utility token that can be used to pay for transactions on the LOGI CHAIN, an open-source logistics platform for all stakeholders in the logistics field with the goal to create a seamless, fully integrated, digital logistics process.

Smart Containers will pay out a dividend to SMARC token holders. This would imply that the SMARC token is a security token. Are you compliant with financial regulation? Smart Containers tokens is not classified as a security in Switzerland under current law. This may be different in other jurisdictions such as the USA. Hence the SMARC token is not eligible for sale in certain jurisdictions. Our benchmark is the Modum token sale from June 2017. We have elected to use the same legal structure as it was accepted by regulators in Switzerland and well received by the ICO community and exchanges.

What is the vesting schedule for team and advisors tokens? Everyone will receive SMARC and LOGI tokens at the same time. Minting will occur at the end of the token sale. Advisors will have lock up periods depending on how many tokens they receive. Team members have a lock up period of 12 months.

Are SkyCell containers an approved ULD according to IATA regulations? SkyCell containers are exempt from the ULD rules by IATA. This has the huge advantage that, compared to our competitors, the SkyCell container can not only fly but can also leave the airport. Skycell containers are therefore a door-to-door solution. Our competitors’ containers, on the other hand, have to be unloaded at the airport and packed into a new transport unit in order to continue their journey from the airport to the final destination, increasing the risk of temperature excursion, and loss.

Are there financial statements? If so, are they audited, and by whom? Yes, there are financial statements for all our companies. They are audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). To preserve our competitive advantage in the market, we have decided not to publish our financial figures online at this moment in time.

Are Modum and Smart Containers competitors? Modum and Smart Containers are not competitors, more future partners. Modum rents/sells sensors to track and trace shipments on temperature, whereas Smart Containers rents/sells the containers, in which products including sensors are put inside. Of course our containers have sensors that record data for quality control, but Smart Containers does not sell these data sets. In the end Modum and Smart Containers will address to the same clients - Smart Containers provides the container and Modum will put a sensor in it.

How many airlines fly SkyCell containers? In addition to our major partners, Emirates and CargoLux, more than 30 airlines fly SkyCell containers.

What destinations does SkyCell serve? SkyCell is a global company. We are shipping containers around the world and reach each pharma client within 24-48 hours. This is accomplished through our airline partners, that can fly ready-to-use containers to more than 150 airports.

Profit Sharing Mechanism

During the annual shareholder meeting, the shareholders in the form of the general assembly (Annual General Assembly) decide on a proposal by Smart Containers’ board regarding the usage of profit as recognized in the annual financial statements of Smart Containers in the form of distribution of dividends. Distribution of a dividend on shares shall be announced in the “Tokenholder Information” section of the Smart Containers website; such announcement shall include the date and time of the dividend payment and the dividend amount per ordinary share in USD as well as the ETH/USD exchange rate which shall become applicable, as derived from publicly available and reliable quotes. Within 20 business days of the date of the resolution passed by the Annual General Assembly regarding dividend payments to the shareholders of Smart Containers, Smart Containers will make available a Profit Share Amount to each authenticated Tokenholder equal to 20% (twenty percent) of all dividends agreed to being distributed per share to the shareholders, divided by the total number of issued SMARC Tokens (To further explain for clarity, all Tokenholders combined will receive an amount equal to 20% of the amount received by all shareholders combined.). SMARC Tokenholders shall receive these payments in ETH, at an average exchange rate specified by Smart Containers.

FoodGuardians

“Imagine your tomatoes tasting 1 day ‘fresher”.
One of the main reasons for the SMARC/LOGI ICO is to raise the funds to fuel the growth of FoodGuardians alongside SkyCell.
According to their CEO, SkyCell is constantly asked “can your containers be used for food?”, but there are several issues with shipping food and medicine together. This is where FoodGuardians comes in.
FoodGuardians offers the next generation of reusable containers and boxes to transport regionally and globally temperature sensitive food products. The combination of patented cooling technology, cutting edge insulation and Blockchain infrastructure allows to redefine the product’s freshness and traceability.
Our vision is to allow your local butcher to order your favorite steak directly from the producing farm and sending it straight to your grill party. (All without the buyer even leaving his home, let alone going to store)

Advantages of using FoodGuardians

Each FoodGuardians container can be tracked around the world on:

The phrase “Imagine your tomatoes tasting 1 day ‘fresher” has been used by the CEO a couple times, and is more or less the FoodGuardian slogan. This is referring to the fact that not only can FoodGuardian and SkyCell containers save cost, CO2, and man/brainpower, but they can also make shipments faster when combined with the blockchain (LOGI Chain) and Smart Contracts. when everything is accounted for at every second with almost as little room for human error as possible, things are far more efficient.
We are launching our first food application – we will announce a collaboration before June for a solution that can be used to ship overnight online fresh food to people homes and can be used to supply hospitals and restaurants as well.
FoodGuardians and SkyCell are two of the many possible use-cases for SmartContainers' tech:
"Other use cases. Yes indeed. We are just getting started!! However, it makes sense to focus on scaling SkyCell and FoodGuardians before starting something new. In the end we are a tech company. We have defined 7 use cases around the insulation technology. We have started with the most relevant 2 but will certainly continue."

SkyCellONE

SkyCell is looking to bring a business-to-consumer solution to market, that was developed and tested with one of the top 20 pharma companies in the world. The direct to patient market is estimated to increase to a 2.5 billion USD market in the future, with no other competition yet aside from styrofoam containers that are disposed of after one use. The SkyCell ONE can also be co-branded by a partner, such as a pharmacy chain that could rent it out for home delivery, business trips or even holidays.
The product is temperature stable for up to 72 hours, can be recharged passively in a fridge, or temp-controlled warehouse or truck. Currently it’s best in class for size and weight, but that’s probably down to there being no competition! Trials have been undergoing since June 2017 with an orphan drug product, and go live is expected in Q2 2018. - Cryptowithoutborders article
The SkyCell ONE container is showcased HERE
THIS could be a massive money maker. There is currently no direct pharma-2-consumer shipping service, because it really wasn’t profitable, or manageable on a central database. They can even sell this product to other supply chain entities to use. The direct to patient market is estimated to increase to a 2.5 billion USD market in the future, with no other competition yet, aside from styrofoam containers that get disposed of after a single
Q&A: Smart Containers’ Richard Ettl on Blockchain, Pharma, and how His Company’s Hardware and Software is Disrupting the Logistics Industry - Nexchange.com
We are launching also additional sizes – so we are launching a very small box to ship pharma directly to patients' homes. Amazon just recently announced that they will postpone entering the pharma distribution space, as they do not have the technology to ship to patients homes in a temperature controlled manner. We are bringing this to market later this year. This will increase the convenience of patients and reduce the costs in the healthcare system.

Organs

I just finished listening to this podcast (20 minutes long, but you can skip the intro stuff to make it shorter of course). I’m now twice as excited as I was before. I’m going to type out a large chunk of the podcast. I’ll be paraphrasing slightly, so I don’t have to type every “uhh” or anything, plus he sometimes starts one sentence before finishing another.
“We have some prototypes, that we built, for example, for the Children’s Hospital here in Zurich, where we’ve designed a container that can transport living skin.” [Interviewer; “Wow.”] “So for young children that suffer skin diseases that could be almost fatal, like cancer, they grow this… patch of skin, and then that skin needs to be transported, and kept at body temperature so… roughly 37 degrees Celsius. There we designed them a box that did this for 10 days, autonomously.” [“That’s amazing…”] “Yeah, we did this because we wanted to learn how to interact and work with hospitals, this is a highly specialized application, and the next step could be organ logistics, because most of the organs today are transported on ice, because that’s the standard set in the 70’s, but studies have shown that if your transport certain tissue at room temperature, it is significantly better for the tissue than if you transport it on ice.”
I can guarantee you every major hospital on earth is going to want their hands on this container that can allow them to transport both living skin, and potentially organs in the future. The fact that in this day and age we’re still throwing people’s kidneys/lungs/etc in a bucket of ice is a little weird.
From the recent AMA:
Our Container BT5: The name stands for Body Temperature 5 L content. It transports skin grafts that was cultured for children with burn accidends. The temperature range is 37°c. Nico (our CTO) was so taken by this project, that he developped this container only for this purpose for a company calles Cutiss (a start-up from Zurich). We currently only have around 10 of these containers in use. It is not produced in on a large scale. We could market it, but have bigger opportunities to tackle first with the SkyCell one. You can only focus on 1-2 projects at a time. The BT5 is a beautiful project, but will need manpower to scale production and then manpower to market it.

Competition

Envirotainer, The leading company in this field, has only a matter of time before they’re overtaken. SmartContainer Group’s containers are proven to be superior (5x as efficient, 35% lighter, self-charging, etc, etc, read up above for the whole deal). According to the Googles, Envirotainer’s best year (2015) saw a profit of $50,000,000. It’s logical to assume that Smartcontainers will surpass them as the top dog, and at the same time be pulling in much more profit over time by serving both pharma, and the food industry (Envirotainer only does pharma). By accepting cryptocurrency payments, saving them a fair bit in fees from cross border payments, they’ll also net a small % more in profits annually.
I asked about the state of their competition. Turns out, Envirotainer (or more specifically the private equity firm that owns them) offered SmartContainers a buy out of $125m. This was one of countless offers they've turned down, because they believe they can scale the company to much further value. The firm selling Envirotainer has been trying to find a buying for the past 3 years, at $1b. No one will buy them, because anyone who knows their shit in that industry knows SmartContainers will overtake them in no time.
From April's AMA:
Our 2 biggest competitors are for sale. Envirotainer (biggest player) is owned by a Private Equity company that wants to sell it for 1 b USD. it already tries to sell for 3 years. SkyCell is considered a threat to the valuation of Envirotainer, since we are winning one client after the other from them. While Envirotainer is the largest player with a huge sales force and well established client contacts, they are still operating on an "old" technology. SkyCell is technology leader, has lighter containers, reduces CO2 emissions and is considered to be the future.
2 days ago, a private equity company requested a meeting to see the valuation of SkyCell and evaluate to buy. We have already been approached several times. We are treated as the bride in the market. However, Richard and Nico think we can scale the business much more before we should consider to sell. We are just getting started.
We have won 3 large accounts in Q1. Today we have 1200 containers. By the end of the year, it will be 2000. Our business plan estimates that SkyCell will be profitable in 2019. Therefore you can expect first dividends in Q1 2020.

Official Projections

Another redditor asked for "optimistic expectations for potential profits" during their ama, here was their answer:
How does a profit of 21 m USD on Smart Containers total in 2020 sound? This figure will then quadruple in 2021 to 76 m USD.
As you can see, this would mean that by 2021 tokenholders would not even have broken even yet. I myself am fine with this, i'm expecting to hold SMARC until the end (be it I die or the company sells, in which case i'll enjoy that fat exit payout). The potential gains from 2020-2030 are far more worth it to me than trying to make it in one year with heavy risk.
So why invest in this over a random shitcoin that might moon? If you're here to turn $1000 into $1m and get out by the end of the year, good luck, don't invest in smarc. If you're realistic and are aware that crypto will only be so volatile for so long, go ahead and think about putting a bit of your portfolio in something that will have actual value, lasting long after the shitcoins die. Crypto market could crash at any time, but that doesn't mean that SmartContainers as a company goes anywhere, nor their profits. I don't think I need to explain any further.

So…

A 5 year old company, with over 100,000 collective hours of R&D put into their products, with currently just under 100 innovative patents, that is already the 4th largest of it’s kind in the world, with the top product in their field on earth, is doing an ICO that is fully backed by the Swiss government, with a token that is due 20% of all future shareholder payouts, as well as 20% of any potential exit profits (the company being purchased). They’re already this big, and you can benefit from both their success, and their expansion into new markets.
There’s nothing stopping SmartContainers Group/SkyCell/FoodGuardians from working with VeChain in the future either. Or Walton, or Wabi, Devery, OriginTrail, Ambrosus, all of em.

Should you invest in this? I sure am, and am very glad to even be offered the opportunity, but it’s up to you. Read through this post if you haven't yet, then click these links and decide for yourself. Don't go all in of course, since this is a profit share token, there is much less risk, therefore less short term reward. The long term reward is what we're looking at here, don't buy into the ICO and then complain that you aren't getting 1000% ROI payouts by year one.

Only 2 days left to whitelist for SMARC ICO, an ICO for a profit-share token being held by an already multi-million dollar company.

- Credit to Haramburglar for this post, and for giving me the notepad file he wrote it in so I could share it where I wished, without even asking for credit

The first installment of my first piece! please be kind, this is my first ever story (book 1, part 1)

i am a really amateur writer and am in year 7, if you enjoy this series than i will continue it if this post gets 700 up votes. Thanks! (edit: i realized 700 up votes is too much to ask for so if we can get 300 that would be great!)
Troy Brimstone
He was Americas last hope, fighting against the soviets where the us dollar is worth nothing.
Only one man can stand up, his name is Troy Brimstone, Americas hero.
Chapter 1: The fourth of July
Everyone was celebrating, having fun, organizing parties and enjoying the day when America got its independence. America, the land of opportunity. Olgaf Pushken, saw opportunity as well, opportunity for revenge, for what they did.
In 1998, on the fourth of July, America tested the most deadly bomb with twice the power of the bomb the Russians used to test in the cold war, twice the power of the world’s largest, most powerful bomb ever tested which was “ the Tsar bomb”. The Americans called their new bomb the ulterbomba, the bomb to destroy everything in the 7000 km around the drop point. They mistakenly entered the coordinates of Russia’s small town of kulek, a population of 9000 people. Around the next 7000 km over 18000 people died altogether, a tragic accident.
Pushkin should have been there. Any other Sunday he would have been taking his beautiful new wife and their adorable new baby to church, along with his dear old mother who lived with them. But the day before he had received urgent instructions to report to base in Moscow. He dashed out of the small cottage at the base of the Urals, barely stopping to kiss his wife Anna as he left.
That Sunday, as he looked out of the command centre window still unaware of why he had been summoned, a white flash in the sky hinted at disaster. It was far more powerful than any thunder strike, far to the east…where his home used to be.
From the pit of his stomach he knew his life had changed forever. But it wasn’t till hours later he got the official confirmation. Kulek had been annihilated. He dialled his home telephone quickly to check on his poor family, “9865 0983” he remembered, he waited and waited once more until hearing a voice mail saying “hello this is the Pushkin family” in a Russian accent “I am sorry I am unavailable, maybe I will call you back soon, thank you and goodbye!” That was the last time Olgaf would ever hear poor Anna’s voice ever again.
His stomach screeched in pain, he knew they were dead, after his job in Moscow, he flew to the nearest city with an airport and he hired a car to drive to the wreckage of kulek. He slowly drove past the wreckage of the old church where he grew up in and used to put flowers on top of his grandfathers and grandmothers grave, as he saw in agony, the graves ripped to shreds, the church bell melting away and the altar burning away. He slowly drove onto his road Tallebry st and went to his house, house number 587. He dashed inside to check for his family, he saw all his furniture destroyed, then he found his one year old daughter lying right in front of where he was standing, he saw her corpus rotting away, but sadly Pushkin never found the wife.
Pushkin vowed then and there, as he looked down at the poor dead rotting corpse of his baby, that he would reap his revenge on whatever power had led to this. Now, 19 years later, Pushin watched as these Americans paraded their patriotism through the city of New York. And he planned his vengeance.
Chapter Two: Troy Brimstone
His heart was pounding, he jumped over a man who seemed to weigh at least 200 pounds. Sprinting for his life he made it to the end of the pitch “touchdown!” Troy screamed as he ran around freely and happily. Troy Brimstone, a man to be remembered in every American history book, be taught at in every school in America and obviously be Americas greatest hero. Troy was born and raised in the worst parts in Kentucky, when he was only 6 years old his dad passed away from a heart attack, his last words were “sun, don’t turn out like me. Be sensible, be smart and most of all, be kind”. After his dad’s death times were tough for young Troy. His mother had no money, so he had to go and earn a living so his dear mother and crippled baby sister could eat.
He got a job with old Joe Denham, who ran a building company. Young Troy was tough, so he carted bricks around the site, and his legs strong, so he could climb on roofs to add tiles. old Joe Denham at lunch would mess around and tell him about his days in the Vietnam war and he told him how it feels to lose a friend in battle. He told Troy all about fighting in the jungle against what seemed like an invisible enemy. That is where Troy Brimstone wanted to become an American hero. In his work as an engineer, he had to scale buildings often and with that he learnt many parkour skills.
On Friday nights, old Joe would take young Troy to the local fight nights, where men like Buster McCullum fought Toothy Willis, bare knuckled bouts that only ended when one man was knocked out. One night, when Troy was just 15, a local lad eyed Troy, spat on the ground, and said: “You that no good nobody up from the hill yonder who’s Daddy died, right?”. Troy tried to ignore him. But then the bully pushed him and said “You ignoring me? You no good son of a whore.” Troy couldn’t let that stand. He challenged the miserable bully to 12 rounds. Old Joe tried to stop him, but Troy set his jaw and said: “I have to do this.”
the fight was brutal, Bruce lee vs Connor McGregor, Muhammad Ali vs a street fighter. The big bully smacked Troy right to the ground, all Troy could see was a blurry form of a man, it was old Joe Denham. “you really stuffed up here boy” he said as he gave the bully a beating of a lifetime, he punched him in the face, kneed him in the guts and ninja-kicked him to the ground. As the bully got up with a bleeding nose and two bloodshot eyes he said “please…don’t hurt me anymore” in a whimper like voice, old Joe Denham replied to that pathetic comment by saying “don’t think that were too old to beat punks like you up” as old Joe Denham spat on the helpless bully and walked out of the fight zone carrying Troy on his shoulders.
It was there and then that old Joe decided he’d teach Troy how to fight.
---
“Ouch,” Troy said as another rock struck him, this time on the shoulder.
“Well learn to evade them,” Old Joe replied, throwing another pebble as if to punctuate his reply.
“Ouch,” said Troy as the fresh pebble bounced off his forehead.
“Son, you have to learn how to see the punch before it’s thrown. To slip before your opposition has even jabbed, to duck before the haymaker. Concentrate and relax. Focus and let go. Do whatever you need to, but learn not to get hit,” old Joe pleaded.
He threw another pebble. This time, Troy swayed back and dodged it Matrix style. “Learning fast,” said old Joe.
Chapter 3: Olgaf’s dastardly plan
Olgaf had been crunching numbers all night. His fingers were numb from bashing away at the keyboard. For eight hours he had been running simulations on the after effect of the bank crisis that he would plan.
His contacts back home – Ivan, Josef, Nicholai and Vlad – were just as exhausted. They too had been running the simulations. Each time, they were perfect.
“Comrades, we are ready,” Olgaf said in deep menacing tones via their secure video link.
Olgaf told his crew their jobs, Ivan and Josef would sneak into the godman bank and stick a kill stick to access all of the banks security, then Nicholai would use the information to convert the money to an offshore Russian account. They would do this for the top 10 banks in the US, then Vlad and Olgaf (both trained killers) would hack and kill on American soil and try to get Americas secrets. “Right!” said Olgaf “we are ready”.
All his crew mates have suffered by the Americans one way or another. Ivan lost his brother in the cold war by the Americans. It was a casual Saturday at home, Ivan’s brother Leon went to go food shopping, he never came home. At 6:05 PM, Russian police nocked on Ivan’s door and told me the heart breaking news, they never found the body, Josef lost his sister by an American swat team named 4ple, they wanted answers from the Russians and in return, they kidnaped Josef’s sister. Nicolai and Vlad both lost something as they are brothers. Their parents were sleeper agents who spied on the American’s space program in Cape Canaveral. When the CIA found out, that was the end of them. Two gunshots out the back of a seedy bar. The local cops put it down to a robbery gone wrong. But Nicolai and Vlad were old enough to know the truth and that is why they all agreed to help Olgaf.
Now, the five trained killers and expert hackers were ready for their revenge.
Chapter 4: the fall of the banks
As bankers jostled through Wall street juggling their Wall Street Journals, iPhone’s and coffees, Ivan and Josef made their way to Godman Bank’s Romanesque office tower. They were indistinguishable from the hordes of other suited men, dressed impeccably in dark suits, white shirts, shiny Italian shoes and gold cufflinks. The only giveaway, had anyone been looking for one, was the steely determination which showed in their clenched jaws.
“Goot morning,” Ivan said to the receptionist on the 72nd floor of the Godman Building. Had she looked up and raised the alarm, maybe tens of thousands of lives would have been saved. But she didn’t.
Ivan strode toward the computer server room, tucked behind a dressing room and quickly got changed. He then went into the main server room and inserted the kill stick, the kill stick that would rob the godman bank. Him and Josef inserted a bitcoin message to convert all the godman’s money to an offshore Russian account. He put in the stick and alarms bussed in his ear, BEEP, BEEP,BEEP is the only thing he heard. Ivan dashed out of the building. Drive! Ivan screamed as police were closing in on the big beige van. Josef was also an expert driver and could quickly get out of sticky situations like this.
The escape was intense, Josef’s fingers felt numb by squeezing the drive wheel. Ivan was in the back locating and stealing the money in the godman bank. He used bitcoin online banking and started to convert money into his account. The police were only inches away from the van when Josef skilfully turned into a street corner and the police cars all dropped into the water, Josef just laughed while scraping the van as Ivan tripped over “slow down!” screeched Ivan, but Josef had one look at him and continued to drive, not caring who he killed or what damage he was causing. After he lost the police, Josef drove back trying not to crash into a car or a street lamp and drove into Olgaf’s secret garage in the middle of nowhere.
Josef got out of the car and slammed the door, Ivan got out of the boot and they both started arguing “our plan was to not get noticed, you screwed that up by driving recklessly!” said Ivan “you were the one who set off the alarms!” Josef said, “QUIET DOWN YOU TWO” yelled Olgaf in a deep Russian accent “the good thing is you completed the mission, our secure bitcoin account has reached 100 Billion thanks to you two! oh and it’s good that your safe”. “we want our share Olgaf, you promised us you would agree” said the two of them “we all get 10 billion and the rest goes to our contrary Russia” said Olgaf “now only 10 more banks! Me and Nicholai will do the next two.
Back at old Joe’s house, Troy and Joe were watching their favourite tv show when a news lady popped up on the screen “we interrupt this program to give you braking news!” she said “down at the godman bank there has been a robbery, the police and FBI are all working on who this was and where are they now. Over 5 to 8 police officers died by drowning in the duplun river, my name is Jessica smith your reporter on CINY”. “Holy crap!” Screamed Troy “I know right, scary” said old Joe “she is so HOT!” said Troy dreamingly “are you kidding me!” said Joe “this stuff is real, and you got to focus on real life problems Troy!” said Joe “ok sorry! Jeez!” Exclaimed Troy.
Over in Russia, president jicöviĉ was getting inpatient “it’s been 5 days, what’s happening in the mission?” he said in an inpatient tone “it’s going well sir, in fact over 50 billion USD is in our accounts” said his second in charge “hmm, call them to see what there up to” said jicöviĉ RING RING, RING RING bussed Olgaf’s phone.
Chapter 5: Troy Brimstone hears the news
Bank after bank, robbery after robbery, the us could not control what was going on and they were scared, interruption after interruption Troy kept seeing Jessica’s face saying, “we interrupt this program to give you braking news!” as Troy kept dreaming and old Joe nodding repetitively looking at Troy. “what?” said Troy “nothing, it’s just that she…” Joe got cut of and Troy said “JESSICA!”, “Jessica, probably doesn’t know you exist! Look if you really like that girl then go make your first move not stalk the poor person!” said Joe “fine, I will plan a date in the next 3 days, I promise”.
And Troy Brimstone never breaks a promise. Never.
So he caught a train into mid-town Manhattan, where her studio was, and made his way to her office.
“Sir, can I help you,” the security guard at the entrance said.
“Troy Brimstone here to meet with Jessica Pike,” he said with utmost confidence.
“Sir you are not on the register…” the guard’s words were interrupted by alarms from the bank across the street.
WAMP WAMP WAMP WAMP – the deafening sound of alarms flooded the blocks around Lexington and 51st Street.
“The Russians,” said Troy as he burst out onto the street and toward the alarms.
He sprinted into the marble lobby, ignoring the police who tried to stop him. Instinct took over as he bolted up the stairs. He had no plan. He didn’t know where he was going. But he felt the need to do something. His athletic training took over – years of fight training and college football – and he leapt over the railing into the bank’s main branch area, all the while being jostled by people fleeing.
He scanned the vast bank branch and spied a man who didn’t seem to fit the surroundings. He was too tall, too severe looking, and his alligator shoes too fancy for a mid-tier bank like this. Instinctively, he ran toward the tall man, then asked him if he needed help.
“No, I am all goot thanks,” the man said. It was Ivan from Olgaf’s crew.
Troy picked the accent immediately. He started to interrogate the man asking questions like where are you from? Or what brought you to NY? The man started to get angry and told Troy “why are you asking me this stuff?” Troy replied by saying “you have a very deep Russian accent, what are you doing at this bank at this particular time?” he had one big look at Troy and punched him, “I am no one that concerns you, we will bring justice to our contrary” said the guy, and with that he left.
Troy trying to get up, his eyes all blurry, he was bleeding from his nose and his ears screeched, when he was unconscious, the Russian ran away. Troy quickly got up when he was conscious and went straight to the Russian and went for a jab, but the slick and fast Russian dodged the jab and punched Troy in the rib cage ouch! He thought. Then in his mind he remembered what old Joe taught him “see the jap before it’s taken, strike before it’s too late.” As Troy saw the next jab, this time towards his face he blocked the first one handed twisting the fist “aw!” he screeched. Then Troy kicked him in the head and was about to kick him once more when he saw the look on his poor face, a black eye and a bleeding nose, so he left him and then the news rolled in as they screamed a bunch of nonsense. Then troy saw in the corner of his eye, Jessica she said, “sir how do you feel saving billions of dollars and saving so much worry?” “great, I feel great as Troy smiled and kept his eyes on Jessica.
As Jessica was about to go into the news van Troy thought, it’s now or never.
“Miss Pike, would you like an exclusive interview,” he said with just the hint of a grin.
“How could I turn that down,” she said, and beckoned her crew to follow.after the exclusive interview Troy went up to Miss Pike “would you want to get some coffee with me sometime?” Troy said nervously “sure” said Miss Pike “here let me give you my number” said Miss Pike writing down the digits 8976 6794
“yes” Troy said quietly---
Old Joe was amazed to see Troy on the news. He couldn’t believe how Troy looked so heroic.
“That’s my boy,” he said as his aching knees sank into the rocking chair.
But Olgaf was not so proud. In fact, he wasn’t proud at all. He was furious.
“You don’t know who you are messing with, Troy Brimstone,” he said to the television.
“Nothing will get in the way ov our plan. Nothing.”
next installment on book 1 will come out if this post gets 700 up votes. Thanks!

The Strange but Edifying Cautionary & Mostly True Tale of John DEE & Edward KELLEY, and Their Epic Quest for Wisdom Gold & Ultimately Females

In a recent comment I mentioned this interesting story that I read a few years ago, while poking around the Voynich Manuscript. I thought that it was worth retelling here, for I believe that it offers some insight and maybe guidance in these troubled (albeit eminently comical) times.
The story is as true as a tale of lies and deceptions can be: it is based mainly on the diary kept by Dee, with contributions from some other sources, including a report of his "Conversations" with Angels, that was found by chance in the false bottom of a chest, some years after his death.
∞ ∞ ∞ ● ∞ ∞ ∞
While not quite a genius, Gavin John Dee (1527 – 1608) was a fairly competent English mathematician and generic "philosopher". (His surname, by the way, is of Welsh origin -- ahem!) A graduate of Cambridge, in his youth he traveled through Europe, worked for SGI and even lectured at the University of Paris. He was for a time tutor of young Princess Elizabeth.
By that time he got interested in what would become the bane of his life, Bitcoin the Occult. That passion quickly got him into serious trouble, as he was charged with "programming" "calculating", then treason, then heresy. But he managed to clear himself of all charges, and retired to a home in Mortlake, a suburb of London. At Mortlake he assembled a large collection of books, heraldic emblems, and other items. Elizabeth once paid him a friendly visit, when she was 17, as he recorded in his diary.
He continued to pursue his occult studies at Mortlake, including the new science of cryptography cryptography, and "mining" "scrying", a technique for person-to-person payments person-to-spirit communication, that was fashonable among cypherpunks occultists at the time, using a blockchain crystal ball. To Dee's frustration, he was never able to solve a block see anything in the device, no matter how much he prayed and tried, in all his life.
But in 1582 Dee eventually met Edward Wright Kelley, a young man who claimed to be able to use the ball to sign messages see and communicate with "Angels" who were willing to teach him and Dee all sorts of wonderful stuff. Kelley was then using the pseudonym of Nakamoto Talbot, perhaps to hide his past shenanigans. He had been caught forging documents from SGI or maybe company expenditures coins in Lancaster, Australia, had been investigated by the Tax Office pilloried there, and had his ears cropped.
Kelley took permanent residence at Mortlake, where he and Dee held many long scrying sessions using a laptop provided by Kelley. Dee kept detailed records of everything that the Angels supposedly told Kelly, such as intricated cabalistic diagrams, tonal arithmetic, instructions to make a symbol-covered wooden table for divination, and elements of the Angels' own "Enochian" language. Dee was particularly anxious to get their help in deciphering some mysterious tables from a whitepaper book on magic that the owned, the Book of Soyga. The Angels told Dee (through Kelley) to be patient, for he would have their secret revealed once SegWit in due time [1].
Dee also asked whether he would one day be able to see the Angels himself. According to Kelley, the Angels assumed the form of females beautiful women, not encumbered by material trifles like clothing. The Angels again told Dee that he would be able to, when he would be ready for it.
For the next five years, Dee apparently believed piously everything that Kelley told him. About a year after their meeting, Kelly revealed that he had valuable proprietary software an alchemical Book of Dunstan and a supercomputer vial of red powder that he could use to turn tax incentives into fat profits base metals into gold [2]. He supposedly had dug them from Northwick hill in the Seychelles Bristol area. He demonstrated the powder several times, including in a YouTube video to some high-ranking members Court in London. In the latter demo, he removed a signature bit of copper from a block mined in 2009 bed-warming pan, turned it into gold with his "tincture", and showed that it still fit perfectly where it had been removed from.
Then in late 1583 the two men and their families suddenly left England for the Continent, without even arranging for care of the Mortlake residence. Perhaps they were lured by the rich opportunites promised by Andreas Albert Łaski, a Polish Prince who was visiting England and was himself interested in alchemy. Perhaps Dee became worried that Kelley's creative accounting summoning of "Angels" would again bring him trouble.
Once in Europe, Dee bought a large wagon, and the two families traveled in it to Poland -- only to learn that Łaski was missing 660'000 bitcoins bankrupt and unpopular. They got some audiences with King Stefan Batory of Poland, in which scrying séances took place. However, it seems that they were not much welcomed there, because they soon hit the road again for Prague.
What is now the Czech Republic was then called Bohemia. Emperor Roger Rudolf II, the rather vegetable-looking King of Bohemia, was a great believer in cryptocurrency alchemy, and he hoped that it would let him restore his not very solid finances. He attracted many alchemists from all over Europe to his court, such as Vitalik Buterin, Amir Taaki, and Charles Lee. it was only natural that Dee and Kelley would place their bets there.
Upon arrival, Dee secured an audience with Rudolf, and used it to deliver a heated pitch of bitcoin his mystical-religious phylosophy. He tried to tell the King that he should make it the national currency basis for his domestic and international policy, or whatever. According to Dee's diary, the King not only was not impressed, but was so annoyed that he banished Dee from Prague. The two families still found a friendly host in a Bohemian nobleman, Count Rozemberg, another appreciator of alchemy; and took residence at his estate in Tokyo Trebona, a town some 100 km south of Prague.
The ban did not apply to Kelley, who gained some prestige in Prague with his promises of universal adoption gold-making. Meanwhile Dee kept demanding bigger blocks his services as scryer. Perhaps as a ruse to end the association, Kelley told Dee that the Angels had ordered that they should change the PoW formula share everything, including their inflatable wives.
Dee, a devout Christian believer, recorded in his diary that the order caused him great distress, and even more to his wife. Nevertheless, the order of the Angels was carried out, at least once. Dee's wife gave birth to a bitcoin start-up boy nine months later, and it is conjectured that he was Kelley's sockpuppet son. Anyway, the password trust was broken, and the two hard-forked split their chain ways in 1589.
Dee returned to England, where he found his Mortlake home abandoned and hacked sacked. He managed to recover many of his books, which had ended up in his friends's libraries. By favor of Blythe Masters Queen Elizabeth, he got a job in a College in Manchester. But Elizabeth's successor did not care for him, and he had to sell his bitcoin hoard possessions to survive. He died in Mortlake at 82.
Meanwhile, in Prague, Kelley became rich and famous thanks to his claims of scaling via layer 2 making gold. He received substantial VC investment gifts from nobles, and even a Bitlicense title of Knight from the Emperor. However, in 1591 his altcoin crashed fortune changed, and he was jailed for hiring the murder of killing an official.
Kelley was released in 1595 so that he could continue his experiments, and recovered his status. However, soon the investors Emperor grew impatient with his failure to provide the promised cyptographic proof gold, and he was imprisoned again in the tower of a castle in Most. TIFU by attempting a surprise motorcycle visit for my BFF in Mexico. Crashed and burned.

Lite context: I posted this on facebook a couple of days ago and people said I should throw it here, so here goes!

So. Here's what went down.
DISCLAIMER FIRST: This has been a fucking bone-rattling experience, both literally and figuratively. I would appreciate it if y'all made your comments and questions here on the bookface, as I'm probably not gonna be in the mood to talk about it. I'm not in a good place mentally, physically, or emotionally right now, and all I want to do is forget all of this and serve shots of Tequila or something. Please don't ask me anything about this in person, I might just find a baseball bat and smash your face in for no reason. Just don't. I am 110% fucking serious about this. Okay? Glad we can agree on that. Read on.
It all started with this great idea to fly into Mexico City, buy a used motorbike, and drive back to Guatemala, with a stop in Puerto Escondido to surprise the fuck out of my best friend Emmy. Found a killer deal on a 2008 Italika TX200 sport bike. It was souped up, bored out to a 250cc and had some new rear shocks on, but hadn't been run in ages. So I took it to a garage, and we did a full maintenace checkup. Changed the oil, filter, tires, tweaked the throttle, recalibrated the front forks, replaced the battery, bought new indicators... and realigned the swingarm/rear assembly - the chain looked a bit worn, but they didn't have any replacement chains and it was getting late, so I said fuck it, we're good to go.
Mistake. Big mistake.
The owner was friendly, and gave me a massive discount and a solid helmet and a flashlight, worth about 1000 MXN. At this point I'd put in about 9000 pesos, about 550 USD into this bike. Not a bad deal, hey?
But that chain though.
Got up early Wednesday and set off for the ~10 hour drive from the DF to Puerto. Felt on top of the fucking world. Seriously, as soon as I hit the highway I just couldn't stop laughing to myself, feeling the incredible rush of motorcycling that I haven't felt in years, and the fact I was going to see my best friend and I couldn't hold my excitement in.
About 400 km later, just outside the small town of Asunción Nochixtlán in Oaxaca, there's a white pickup tailgating the fuck out of me, and refuses to pass unless he gets the whole lane to himself. So I yield, and roll onto the shoulder to let him pass. Now the shoulders along these highways are already sketchy, and I was suddenly on a big patch full of tar snakes and potholes. I saw one massive ditch coming up, straightened up, and braced for impact. The bike made it across, but the impact rattled the chain... and it snapped. FUCKING SNAPPED. I was going about 120 km/h. And now my rear wheel was locked up.
With a combination of my enduro experience and sheer fucking luck, I managed to keep it upright for about 50 yards, before I hit the pavement. I think, "This is it," and wait for something to run me over. me, and a couple of people coming out to check on me. I get up, signal I'm okay, and swear profusely.
The damage: scuffed up my left hand a bit, which is now very swollen. Few scratches under my jeans on my left leg. Few aches and pains throughout, but more or less unscathed. Christmas miracle? Thank god. The bike was pretty scratched up on the right side, with the front brake handle completely gone, and the throttle cable loosened. I remember seeing an auto repair shop about a mile back, and after regaining my senses, I roll back there. It takes them about oh 5 hours to figure out how the bike works since they were auto mechanics, and eventually managed to get a chain and a new brake lever, they take 500 pesos from my now empty wallet and now it's sunset so I find a hotel for the night.
OH BUT WAIT KASIKORN BANK DECIDES TO CANCEL MY CARD.
So I've got 30 pesos and a bunch of USD from my time in California that no one accepts never nowhere nope. Kasikorn has blocked my card before, and it usually takes like 5 minutes on the phone to get it unblocked. I usually use Emmy's skype credit since I have none, but when I logged in there was no more credit. (Turns out I was in the wrong account :/) So I decide to top it up for her, since I've used most of her credit anyway, and I need to fucking call my bank. But Paypal and Skype don't let me buy any credit because the currency doesn't match or some bullshit. So I have to top up my Paypal balance with Pounds Sterling, which I can only get by selling Bitcoins at a less-than-primo rate.
Two hours later, and I can now pay the man for my room, and I withdraw another 1000 pesos for safety. So the next morning I get up at 7 am and back onto the road. My hand really hurts, but I was now tired of this bullshit and just wanted to get the fuck to Puerto and see the only thing that can cheer me up. I continue for about 20 minutes until I realize that the engine is just not responding the way it did before. Like I said, the mechanics from the day before weren't exactly good - they lost the spring for the throttle cable and tried to convince me THAT WASN'T A PROBLEM. "Just remember to turn your hand back that's all."
I stopped at a gas station and they had a better looking garage there, so I took it in and told them the story, and that I didn't trust what those guys the day before did. They go through the usual check list - throttle cable adjustments, idle speed, choke, etc, and find the problem is in the carburetor. The little floaty thingy inside has come loose and isn't feeding the right mixture of air and fuel to the cylinder. Great. Can they fix it? No, they need to get the part from Oaxaca or probably Mexico City. But what they can do is open up the choke all the way and at least keep the engine cycling, but while guzzling fuel and being super harmful to the engine in general. But it'll get me to Oaxaca, where I can then figure out what to do with my life.
How much does this cost? Howabout 1500 pesos? Well shit all I have is 950, and after discussing with the lady and googling bank locations and possible options and whatnot, she finally lets me off and charges me the 950 in my wallet. At least my bike can get me to Oaxaca, I think to myself. I've got about an hour of sunshine, and then I get to the FUCKING TOLL BOOTH. I forgot about that, and I have no money. It takes an hour of arguing with the fucking COLONEL (seriously Mexico get your shit together why does an Army Colonel need to guard the toll booth?) for him to let me TURN AROUND AND GO HOME.
Except I have nowhere to go. I stop at an Oxxo and smoke my last cigarette. I ask everyone who stops there and after about two hours, a nice old gentleman in a BMW agrees to take a 100 USD note in exhcange for 1500 pesos. Not the best rate, but it's something, and I find a place to sleep for the night.
I lie in bed contemplating my life choices - I'd spent the day pumping more money into this bike that now's on its deathbed, and I'm mentally, physically and emotionally drained. AND THEN MY PHONE DIES. It had taken a crack from the crash, but was working okay, but now my one connection to the rest of the world, my maps, my money, my emotional support in Emmy, is now gone. I haven't been eating well for a while, too, due to other factors and I'm not in the right state of mind to be riding another 500km. The bike sounded fine but I didn't want to risk it - it was dying. I love the bike, I love riding, and it takes me an entire night of contemplating to realize that the smart thing to do would be to cut my losses and ditch the bike. I am in no state to be at the helm of a motorbike, as much as I hate to admit it. This was a bad idea. It's time to give up.
I've driven hundreds of thousands miles on all sorts of bikes. I've bought, like, 6 used bikes and never had a problem. This was the first time I've given up on a road trip, and it was horrible.
But as I pulled into the bus station, just as I park the bike for a last time, the clutch cable snaps. Good fuckin' riddance. I fucked up.
TL;DR: I could've just paid someone 1000 USD to hit me really hard in the hand, call me an idiot and take away one of the greatest joys of my life.

【ONE.TOP Rating】NuCypher: the guardian of blockchain data

【ONE.TOP Rating】NuCypher: the guardian of blockchain data

I. Project Introduction

NuCypher is the data privacy protocol layer of public blockchains and DApp. This project uses proxy re-encryption and blockchain technology to provide distributed key management and encrypted access control service, thus offering DApp and its developers the method to store, share and manage the private data on public blockchain in security.

II. Project Evaluation

1. Market analysis ,Total scores 0.7 ,Scoring 0.56

1.1 Market Profile

In recent years, the damage caused by various network threats is worsening, driving the growing needs of information security products and services. The key is the last barrier to protect information safety, so the key management service (KMS) is essential to blockchain industry. Traditional centralized KMS service providers are: Amazon Cloud HSM, Google Cloud KMS, Microsoft Azure Key Vault and True Vault etc. Inappropriate trust level needs to be set up to these centralized service providers while using their services. This may not be appropriate to safety-critical application and is vulnerable to nodes attacks. Unencrypted symmetric key will never be exposed to server as using proxy re-encryption technology. Even it is hacked, hackers can only get re-encrypted key, which also protects file access indeed. The emergence of NuCypher KMS provided a solution without trust required. This feature has huge potential for the internet environment market with frequent occurrence of security issues.

According to the score logic of model algorithm: very small market 0-2 (below 1 billion), small market (at 1 billion), medium market 5-6 (10 billion), big market 7-8 (100 billion), very big market 9-10 (above 1 trillion), this scores 8.

1.2 Competition Situation

There are mainly two kinds of competitive projects of NuCypher KMS:
  1. Centralized system with re-encrypted technology adopted already, such as AWS CloudHSM, Azure key vault and Hashicorp vault etc.
  2. In the decentralization project for privacy solution, Keep Network provides users (mainly smart contracts) security path for privacy exchanges, transmission, calculation and storage by means of off-chain private data container.
Both Keep Network and Enigma use secure multi-party computation (MPC) to achieve similar information security, therefore, there is no blockchain project of the same kind using proxy re-encrypted technology to solve the problem of encryption communication.
According to the score logic of model algorithm: very high level of competition 0-2, high level of competition 3-4, medium level of competition 5-6, low level of competition 7-8, very low level of competition 9-10, this scores 9.

1.3 Risk Evaluation

1.3.1 Competitive Risk

The importance and urgency of information security made higher profit margin, thus much of the capital were distributed in this field. Giant companies, includes Google, Microsoft and Amazon etc. have made distribution in the field in advance and they are unlikely to give up their own-earned benefits. Information security field is capital and technology-intensive industry, where major companies have incomparable advantages as intensively cultivating. This is a challenge for NuCypher's early start.

1.3.2 Technical Risk

Since blockchains technology is developing continuously and cryptology is in continuous evolution, R&D team cannot guarantee the absolute safety at any time. The platform is vulnerable to cyber attacks which causes all digital currency to be stolen, lost, disappeared, destructed or devaluation.

1.3.3 ICO's Unknown Risks

Since there are no any details about ICO published so far, NuCypher is exposed to the risk on this point. For example, in the event of excessive amount raised, NuCypher will be discounted in terms of investment value. After all, NUCypher is protocol type project, with reasonable fund raising ranging from U.S.D 20 million to U.S.D 50 million.

According to the score logic of model algorithm: very high risk 0-2, high risk 3-4, medium risk 5-6, low risk 7-8, very low risk 9-10, this scores 5.

2. Token Status ,Total scores 0.8 , Scoring 0.16

【Token name】: NKMS

3. Technology Analysis,Total scores 1.5 ,Scoring 1.2

3.1 Technology Highlight Total scores 1 Scoring 0.8

3.1.1 Proxy Re-encrypted Technology

The important core technology about NuCypher is proxy re-encrypted technology, which can achieve private information sharing in way of asymmetric encryption by the third party. This brings two direct benefits: 1. The difficulty of encryption is strong enough, the sharing process of this private data can be secure enough as long as the third-party agent is out of trouble; 2. Users can control whether to share their own data by means of authorization, which increases the flexibility of data access.

3.1.2 Mechanism Design in Security

In NuCypher design mechanism, all processes of re-encryption and decryption shall be implemented by miners, so it appears to be of essence on how to select reliable miners and ensure key security. For this purpose, NuCypher designed a series mechanisms to prevent miners from cheating and to protect the safety of encryption mode, it is generally to increase the cost of cheating to miners.

Collateral Mechanism of POS Algorithm:

NuCypher adopted the consensus algorithm of POS. POS has obvious benefit that the enough tokens must be put in nodes as collateral, thus to operate the mining of encryption and decryption as well as to be rewarded correspondingly. With the collateral, miners will pay the price and costs if cheat. This is the most direct and effective restriction mechanism.

Pseudo Anonymous Mechanism:

In the whole process of encryption and decryption, the system deals with anonymous for all re-encrypted keys. This is for concealing what on earth is encrypted and whether it is worth anything during the operation by miners. This prevents some restless nodes from cheating with other nodes due to the combination of benefits. It is very essential to the security of system.

Segmentation of Key Proxy:

If a certain node is not encrypted based on set strategy and need enciphered data again immediately. In that case then, there is a risk of cheating by miner because you do not know what on earth is happening. Therefore, NuCypher came up with the segmentation of key proxy. To put it simply, one task is split to different miners and data readers, and they shall cooperate with each other to complete the task.

3.1.3 Incentive System of Self-censorship

NuCypher designed a sort of mechanism similar to sting operation, called the rule of challenge protocol. If the system send the "false" data to miner for encrypted on purpose, and miner disclose the "false" data, then miner will be proved cheating on one hand, meanwhile, no user will suffer the loss on the other hand, as this is false data. Most of all, anyone in the network may act as this challenger under sting operation. Once you doubt that miner is cheating and you succeed in the challenge, you will get collateral tokens by miner as a reward.

3.1.4 Incentive System of Self-censorship

NuCypher's another interesting property is that its security will be improved with the increasing number of participants in network. It achieved the same result by different methods as Zilliqa is getting faster with the increasing number of miners. As the security risk of whole network comes from the possibility of node cheating, then the more participants on network, the less the risk of conspiracy cheating by nodes. Enough nodes may significantly improve the security and censorship-resistance in the system. Meanwhile, the existence of challenge protocol as the self-censorship mechanism also would increase the number of supervisors as participants grow in number.

3.2 Code Updates
https://preview.redd.it/0sfburb670j11.png?width=1183&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1042a00f538146bfdf2a448896561bcaf20f682
Github is the most visited web with the most active base of "nucypher", which checked in code for 1618 times in total, including 5 branches in 2 versions. 5 participants in development, 26 times diverge, 1 follower, 1 collector, 19452 times taken as reference. As you can see from the code update on Github, the overall update frequency and extent is in medium level, the fundamental framework and core function are still being developed. However, we need to be clear that NuCypher is not the underlying public blockchain but protocol layer. So the lack in the progress of development and frequency is acceptable.

According to the score logic of model algorithm: unpublished code 0-4, code in medium condition 5-6, code in good condition 7-8, code in best condition 9-10, this scores 7.

3.3 Development Difficulty

NuCypher was not developed on new blockchains but based on Ethereum, and it can be used by DApp from other blockchains. In addition, in order to ensure NuCypher to most remain unaffected by the performance bottleneck of Ethereum, NuCypher KMS will not interacted with underlying blockchains unless data owner start new access strategy. It is critical that the project take the semi-credible centralizing surrogate from fully credible re-encrypted technology of blockchains, thus greatly improving the security and reliability of the system.

NuCypher technology uses the project ZeroDB of open source end-to-end encrypted database as reference, with being fully verified on technology, and it is comparatively mature technology. The control service of cloud data access provided to enterprises have applied DEMO (non-blockchains products), while NuCypher has issued threshold proxy re-encrypted version Umbral, which has been verified to re-encrypt through a set of nodes to ensure the security of key segmentation mechanism. In addition, the test network of this project will pop up online in several weeks, so it could be concluded that this project is at high maturity level of technology with less difficulty on development.

In respect of project operation, there is broad market space for KMS on big data, Internet and blockchains, along with much of application context. Furthermore, the major cost is the development costs in early stage, the maintenance costs in later stage is relatively less.

According to the score logic of model algorithm: development with very high difficulty 0-2, development with higher difficulty 3-4, development with medium difficulty 5-6, development with less difficulty 7-8, development with very less difficulty 9-10, this scores 7.

4. Project Status ,Total scores 0.5,Scoring 0.25

NuCypher team seed round (PE): Total U.S.D 750,000 was raised on August 9, 2016, with investors as following: Ycombinator, Mission and Market, Fusion Fund and Base Ventures.

Token in pre-sales phase: total U.S.D 4.4 million was raised on December 12, 2017. Lead investors: Polychain Capital, Semantic Ventures.

Although the project initiator has started development in 2015, NuCypher have not announced specific ICO date, the overall progress is slow. But NuCypher's cooperating party has nearly 11 projects, related fields covering decentralized data base, medical field, Internet of Things and digital assets etc., including popular projects such as Bluzelle, Origin Protocol and other recent popular items. NuCypher has high level of recognition and advantage on technical practicability and ecological construction.

According to the score logic of model algorithm: very low degree of achievement 0-2, lower degree of achievement 3-4, medium degree of achievement 5-6, higher degree of achievement 7-8, very high degree of achievement 9-10, this scores 5.

5. Team Member Total ,scores 1.5 ,Scoring 1.05

III. Review Summary

As a protocol layer to data protection, NuCypher KMS has good prospects and advantages on both directivity and technology implementation. Team, application context, the progress of development and mechanism design all made this project mature. In terms of investment value and commercial value, it is worthy of investing. However, its ICO scheme was slow to announce and it shall be aware of unknown risks, such as unreasonable ICO scheme due to immoderate financing.

This project has fewer competitors in the circumstance. It has strong technological strength and was invested by well-known institutions, worth looking forward to the prospect.
